Walking distance?

How long would it take to walk from Fort district to the Chor Bazaar? It doesn%26#39;t look all that far on my map. Thanks.

Walking distance?

Can walk, maybe 45 minutes from VT station, but through very crowded and somewhat disorienting places. On our Chor Bazaar walk, we usually take a taxi from VT station, it takes 20 minutes to get to the starting point of the walk. Most taxi drivers know the area, but watch out for greenhorn drivers who don%26#39;t. If you get disoriented, ask for JJ Hospital, which is about a 5 minute walk from one end of Chor Bazaar. The bazaar itself is one long road.

Walking distance?

In case my reply was ambiguous - I%26#39;m suggesting you don%26#39;t try walking!

Yes, don%26#39;t do it!

Thanks....a taxi it is then. I%26#39;m planning a day by day itineary. That particular day will be a busy one. Breakfast at Mocha followed by a taxi tour of Falkland Road. Taxi will drop us off in Chor Bazaar where we shop and take a look at Bhuleshewar market. This is followed by a taxi back to VT. From there we walk to Britannia in Ballard Estate for lunch. After lunch we will explore the Fort district and then return to our hotel (Chateau Windsor) to relax before the evening ahead. Dinner will at Khyber in Kala Ghoda. Then we%26#39;ll have a long taxi ride up to Bandra for drinks at Olive followed by dancing at Poison. Phew, I%26#39;m exhausted just writing about it.

This doesn%26#39;t quite add up. Are you Mathers or Mathews - and how did you master use of the Internet so quickly...?

If you wish to go back to the time warp you came from, try one of the clubs. They%26#39;re still in circa 1850.

I%26#39;m sure your membership still works?

P.S. If you%26#39;re serious, Major Mathers, tell me your budget and I%26#39;ll let you know the hotels you can try. And for writing the most interesting post on this forum in the past 2 years, I%26#39;ll throw in a free tour.

clockwork, that is not a very sensible agenda, for many reasons. First, I don%26#39;t understand going to Falkland Road in the morning, unless you want to see what sad, depressing sleazy stuff looks like in bright sunlight. Even if you did go, you can%26#39;t do Falkland Road and Chor Bazaar and Bhuleshwar all in one morning and then walk to Brittania for lunch (are you with a guide, or by yourself? did someone actually suggest this agenda to you?). There%26#39;s more that%26#39;s wrong with this agenda, but hey, go speak to your agent or whoever and set it right.

Deepa, thanks for your comments. You mentioned that there were other things wrong with my agenda - please share as it will be useful to know. It wasn%26#39;t suggested by an agent (I made it up)....there will be 4 of us without a tour guide.

We weren%26#39;t planning on walking to Britannia from Chor Bazaar. We would be walking there from VT station.

Also, I should point out that the emphasis of this trip is less about sightseeeing and more about drinking and fine dining. We may see the major sights but not spend much time exploring them. We are prepared to hop into taxis several times per day if required.

I%26#39;m not overly fussed about seeing Falkland Rd. If we do, is it better to see at night?

I realise you are walking from VT.

Here%26#39;s the day as I see it:

- Breakfast by 8:30 or so.

- Explore Fort Heritage area on foot (since Chor Bazaar and Bhuleshwar open only after 11ish)

- Lunch at speciality restaurant (Casa Soul Fry maybe, for seafood, or Trishna. Or many others in Kala Ghoda)

- 2:00 p.m. taxi to Chor Bazaar. 2:30 to 3:30 Chor Bazaar exploration, taxi to Crawford Market by 4:00

- Walking exploration of Bhuleshwar (go inside the Jama Masjid lane, see Mangaldas Market, Mirchi Galli, Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai Devi), walk out again to Crawford Market

- Taxi to hotel by 6:00

- Relax until 7:00, taxi to Olive, reach by 8:30

Falkland Road is the red light district. Not a good idea for 3 women on their own, unless you want to drive through it...it is a depressing place, many of the women are victims of trafficking, some really grim stories. Combine sleaze and corruption with gut-wrenching poverty, what do you get? Falkland Road.

Sorry, four of you, not three. And I don%26#39;t know why I assumed you were three women. Weird, huh?
