Goa Animal Welfare Trust

Is this the charity who carry out a regular anti-rabies vaccination programme and who clip I think it%26#39;s the right ear after a dog has been vaccinated, so that you know a dog is Rabies free and it doesn%26#39;t need vaccinated?

Goa Animal Welfare Trust

Just visited their website - wasn%26#39;t aware that any such organisation existed. We are great animal lovers and will definitely be making a donation.

We had our jabs last week and the nurse at the travel clinic gave my girls a right old lecture about not going near the dogs in Goa and I told her that I would always discourage it, but it is so hard as we all love dogs and our own is such an angel and adores the kids.

Theworldsmyoyster,

have a look on my profile of the photo titled ';our little mate';

Try keeping your girls away from cuties like that!

My youngest wanted to bring her home:-)

AWW, your little mate was lovely. We%26#39;d better not go there though as we%26#39;d get too attached.

Very interested in helping the organisation though making life better for the animals and safer for the locals and tourists alike.

That%26#39;s the right organisation. They also take stray dogs off beaches, neuter them, check they%26#39;re healthy and put them back. We%26#39;ve noticed a drop in the number of stray dogs on the beaches, and those that are there are much healthier than in years past.

For anyone who%26#39;s interested, GAWT also runs anti-rabies camps in different villages each week, vaccinating anything up to about 120 dogs each time. These are subsidised, and the volunteers also give advice on animal care, ticks, worms, fleas, mange and everything else you can imagine. There%26#39;s an event being held on 17 March (well, I think it%26#39;s 17 March - St Patrick%26#39;s Day) in Goa to fundraise for them.

We%26#39;ve raised money for them in the UK before and it%26#39;s nice to know that every penny really does count and that it goes to help keep animals healthy and rabies at bay.

Is this charity anything to do with international animal rescue?

Not as far as I%26#39;m aware. It%26#39;s an independent charity working for the health and welfare of animals in Goa.

The reason i asked is because international animal rescue have been doing the same thing for at least 12 years. They used to have a small place in saligao but thanks to lots of donations they now have a large animal hospital near siaolim. Channel 5 actually made a documentary about their work in goa about 6 years ago. So just wondered if they had changed the name of the charity.

I believe International Animal Rescue works in the North of Goa, and GAWT in the south. I remember seeing the programmes.

Thanks LGG I thought that was who do it , they certainly do a fabulous job.
