Candolim questions

Hi

I have left this a little late sorry, but we are off to Goa for the first time next week, but if any one has time to let us know any info on great restuarants or shacks, any tips on good places for bird-watching in area or otherwise, along with names of any good guides we could use?

My doctor advised that mossy tabs were not necessary, but wonder if this is best plan, from what I have read?

Has anybody had any jewellery made and any recommendations?

Any information gratefully received!! Went to Sri Lanka last year, had a fantastic time the people were brilliant!!

Many thanks

Angela

Thanks folks.

Candolim questions

hello,

I had good time at St Anthony restaurant at Baga Beach. Instead Venice restaurant in Panaji was disappointing for food and slowwwwwwww service, both were unexpensive. I have very good memories of the restaurant Alfama, which my nick is from, inside the htl Cidade de Goa, (see my review).

No matter about mossy tabs completely useless. You will be perfectly safe.

We went to a spice plantation but there were no birds in sight.

Goa is not the right place to buy jewels; Mumbai, Old Delhi and carefully Jaipur are the best places for jewel shopping. If you want to shop it is advisable to go to an estabilished place, have a written guarantee and pay with credit card, so you could have time to come back home, check the purchase and enventually stop the payment before it is processed.

Hi,my doctor advised me to take tablets antimalarial travel pack one week before you go, we have started today as we go on the 1 March, always take care as you pay so much for your holiday and do not need it to be ruined. Mossy attack even in Jersey

Please be careful about Malaria tabs.

I%26#39;ve bumped an earlier post.

Is this posting a wind up ?

Thanks everyone for taking the trouble to reply - I have made notes!!

If anyone has any further info on birdwatching hotspots or good guides that would be appreciated.

I am a little mystified Barkingcreek as to why you think this may not be a genuine enquiry, can assure

you it is!! I am a bit new to postings, so canyou tell me if I%26#39;m doing something wrong??!!

Thanks again to all.

Angela

Hi Angela

I am a bit mystified because this subject has been heavily discussed over the last few days. The one a week tabs that people are talking about do not exist. I see that you are recently new to the forum. Maybe if you read only the Candolim forum you may have missed this, if you read the Goa forum you will get all Goa postings. As to your Doctors advice , it appears that he is in a minority, with the NHS website recommending the use of malaria prophylaxis I wonder what your doctor bases his advice on ?

If you look on the Goa forum at the two recent postings Quinarsol-300 and Malaria tabs both of these should explain why I thought this was a bogus posting.

I think the general consensus on this forum and the view of the official medical websites is that malaria prophylaxis should be taken and that given the fact that over 2000 people in Goa got the disease in the first part of last year, the advice given to you that it is nothing to worry about is cause for concern. I%26#39;m not saying that you should or should not take anti-malarials. Merely that you should be in posession of the facts before you make a decision.

That aside, welcome to the forum and I hope the advice you get here will be helpful and accurate.

Hi Angela,

I agree with BC,

your doctor is seriously misinformed, it makes me quite angry that these so called profesionals give out duff information like this.Anti-malaria pills should deffinately be taken for Goa.Wheather you do or not is up to you.

steve

p.s. you will love Goa, the people there are also brilliant :-)

hi Angela,

the tablets that barking c says do not exist has annoyed me

for ONE i don%26#39;t tell lies,

FOR TWO they do exist

FOR THREE it was my doctor who told me to get them in Goa a couple years ago cause they are what he uses

the name of the TABLETS are CHLOROQUINE

you take them on the same day each week for 6 weeks as soon as you get there then the week after and for the next 4 weeks.

WHAT it states on the medical write up is

this tablet is taken to help prevent malaria, it can be used on its own or in combination with other anti malarials to increase its effectiveness it is taken weekly.

she

She

Chloroquine on it%26#39;s own is NOT effective against the strain of Malaria prevalent in Goa The recommended medication is chloroqiune and proguanil ( that%26#39;s chloroquine once per week and proguanil daily.

I%26#39;m not saying that you%26#39;re lying, just dangerously mis-informed.

Please. for your own sake, take medical advice before continuing with this action.
