trip to dun or manali

Even though I stay in Dehra Dun, if the choice is between Manali and Dehra Dun, I would say go to Manali. It is much much more beautiful and one week in Manali is heavenly. Only thing is it is about 18hrs by bus from Delhi. Dehra Dun as such is not a tourist attraction.

If you%26#39;re going to Kullu - Manali, you also have the option of taking a train from Delhi to Kalka or Chandigarh (about 3 hours, I think) and then getting a taxi to drive up. This will help you soak in the beautiful scenery along the way. Past Mandi, the route is absolutely beautiful. We did this last year and loved it.

You could also cut the journey short by taking a flight to Bhuntar which is about 50 kms or so from Kullu. Make sure you book your tickets well in advance as they tend to disappear really fast in May.

I havent been to Dehradun so I cant really compare the two destinations but Manali is wonderful.

The Log Huts where we stayed were great. Pricey but well-worth it.

Manali town, as such, didnt seem very interesting to me but head a few kilometres out of town into the countryside and its mindblowing!

I think if I go back there again I would try to stay at a place which is totally off the main tourist circuit. Maybe some place on the Manali - Solang Valley route.

The route from Manali to Naggar is also great. Filled with coniferous trees and very tranquil.

Dont miss a trip to Rohtang.Start very early in the day or you%26#39;ll get caught in the worst traffic jam of your life. And make sure you get your taxi-driver to drive you further up the road, where everyone usually parks their vehicles. The snow here was pristine and looked absolutely untouched compared to the dirty stuff we found everyone else rolling around in.

You can go paragliding from either Solang Valley or near Rohtang.

Sorry, that should read '; drive further up the road from where everyone usually parks their vehicles';. Normally everyone tends to cluster near the parking spot at Rohtang, which makes it really overcrowded and dirty.
