Delhi For Kids

Need some suggestions for kid type activities in and around Delhi. Ages 12 and 15. Natural history museums, Indian Army surplus stores, cooking classes, Indian Art classes, Dance studios, animal sanctuaries, snake farms. Cool, hip teenage clothing. Places Indians would visit with their children. Going in Dec so plenty of time to investigate.

Delhi For Kids

I will be travelling to Delhi with kids the same age, next month. My intention is to take them where we adults want to go and just keep things brief. I have well travelled kids and find that as long as you interpret sighseeing to their level, they will enjoy just about anything. I will concentrate on - getting them to observe daily life and how it is different from home, explaining in basic terms who Gandhi was and about the Moghuls, the Raj and colonialism, how poverty co-exists with wealth, cuisine/foods to try, and, of course, cricket (20/20 and local kids games).

As long as my kids get some regular down time or play time- especially pools- and good food, they are fine. Shopping for something that they like or want (within reason) is also interesting and the bazaars should be entertaining.

I think the frenzy of driving around Delhi should be entertainment enough!

hi - we travel much like you, can you recommend hotels in delhi and varanasi? pool would be great, but not required.thx l-travel-4

For Delhi, I suggest you look up recommended hotels in the tripadvisor popularity, decide which area you want to stay in and then check out the websites of the hotels in that area and look at their pool photos on their site. My searches seem to show good pools at the Taj Palace, Imperial, Oberoi Maidens (which also has a tennis court and large grounds) and the Sheraton.

In Varanasi, the hotels in the cantonment area mostly seem to have pools but I think the spectacle of the Ganges is the highlight so I would suggest a room with a river view so the kids can watch it all from the safety of their room and not be so overloaded sensorily! The Palace on Ganges gets good reviews for this.

For Western kids, as for adults, India can be a real sensory overload experience so the opportunity to have some %26#39;normal%26#39;time out is vital.
