Trip from Bangalore to Kerala

I would like some advise on planning a trip to Kerala - unfortunately we will be travelling during peak season. We hope to see Kerala from 2Jan09 to 9/2/09 (1week). I will be travelling with my husband and 2 kids 13 %26amp; 11yrs. I would like to know how best to get to the backwaters as well as periyar . Are these fun for kids too. I am quite happy to travel by train as we have done this before. Any suggestions of how to plan the trip.Ta

Both backwaters and Periyar are fun for kids and all you need to do is book in advance. They are not connected by train so you will need to hire a cab to get from one place to another-or travel by bus.

Trip from Bangalore to Kerala

Greetings,

I was in Kerala two years ago in Travandrum. The back water is a relaxing and enjoyable day trip. A trip to Cape Comorin in Tamil is also worth it. We traveled with a small group in a mini bus it average travel speed is approximately 20 miles an hour.

Have a good Trip,

Thanks all for your responses. Does anyone know if ther are backwater trip in other parts of kerala or are they only in kumarakom?

If you are literally going from Bangalore to Kerala, here are a couple of suggestions as we did that trip in reverse.

1) Cheap regular flights from Bangalore to Thiravananthapuram, and then explore the area from there up to Kochi.

2) Hire car and driver from Bangalore. First stop Mysore, then up to Ooty Hill Station and take the Toy Train down and on to Coimbatore. Drive then down to Kochi past the elephant temple place. After a day in Fort Cochin, drive down to Alapuzha and either take the backwater ferry or hire a rice barge for a day%26#39;s cruising. Then inland to Thekkady and Perriyar W/life Park. Drive down to Thiravanthapuram and on to chill out at Kovalam. 5 day trip, 2 days chill-out and fly back to Bangalore.
