Radisson Varca beach & Taxi prices

Hi,

off to the Radisson White Sands this weekend and was just browsing the forums for ifo on taxis. Do all the taxis insist on wait and return? If so whats he typical cost for an evening trip out to a restaurant?

Also it looks like its best to employ the services of a driver for days out, any recommendations and once again an idea of costs.

Sorry to keep on about costs but i get the impression UK travelers seem to be taken advantage of.

While i have your attention are there any recommendations for places to eat witihn walking distance for lunch and evenings?

It%26#39;s hard to give you exact costs, but in the Radisson foyer you will find a comprehensive price list of Taxi fares to most destinations and restaurants in the area. These are the prices you will have to pay , no more no less, there is a darkness surcharge in the evenings, and a waiting charge per hour .The prices are high by Indian standards.Some guests say they walk up to the Club Mahindra,where they are a bit cheaper.

There are 4 or 5 shacks on the beach , where you can also dine in the evenings, take a torch. Outside the main gates you will find Periero%26#39;s restaurant , further down the road turn left at martins, along this lane are Misha%26#39;s and Sun and Moon .

Riverview in Cavelossim, and Fishermans Wharf at Mobor are excellent IMO. Martins Corner in Betalbatim is popular with Locals and Tourists.

I didn%26#39;t see any mention of the price list in any of the searches, at least you know where you stand with fixed price deals.

Would you have any idea on the costs for a days taxi hire? I know it might be based on miles covered but say an excursion to take in a couple of the typical sites or attractions.

Also if anyone can recommend a driver based on previous experience that would be most welcome.

Hotels should have a price list for the Taxi%26#39;s that serve the hotel. The Radisson dosn%26#39;t allow non hotel taxi%26#39;s into the grounds to pick up .A days sight-seeing was around 1500 Rs with a hotel taxi, again the popular destinations and costs are displayed. If you are lucky to find a private taxi they will not be allowed into the grounds, but it%26#39;s not a big problem to be dropped outside, sorry I don%26#39;t have any recommendations.Please have a look at the TA hotel reviews, there are some opinions on the Taxi Mafia at the Radisson.

its was the comments in the reviews that lead me to ask here in the forums, maybe by introducing the price list the hotel are trying to combat the probblem of overcharging. If the prices are too high then i%26#39;ll do what every one else and vote with my feet and get a taxi out side.
