kovalam holiday soon

we are staying at the Uday Samudra in Kovalam from 21st. March (have stayed there before so no worries about the hotel). Has anyone done a trip to Periyar or Mummar staying with a local family for a couple of days and what advice can you give?

Any advice about the local (Kovalam) agents who would arrange this type of trip would be welcome.

It is advisable to have the experiece of staying with a family , provided you choose a home stay kind of accomodation , especially some of the plantation retreats.

There are some excellent ones in Thekkady ( periyar) aswell as Munnar

it is infact a way of travelling responsibly with some positive social aspects , where the local ecoomy also get benifitted
