Delhi Airport Question

Hello--

For those who may have experience navigating the Delhi airport or have done something similar, my wife and I will be arriving in Delhi from Kathmandu, Nepal at approximately 5:45pm on Jet Airways. We are scheduled to depart for our flight home to the US on a Continental flight at approximately 10:30pm that same night. Assuming we have to check some luggage in Kathmandu and pick it up in Delhi, in addition to all the processing upon arrival in Delhi and for checking in for our Continental flight, is it enough time (a little less than 5 hours) between arrival and departure to comfortably make our flight home? The Jet Airways flight was booked completely separate from our Continental flight home, so we would have to pick up our luggage, then recheck it and check in for our flight back to the US, upon arrival.

We really don%26#39;t want to spend another night and day in Delhi (we would have been there a week earlier in our trip) and our only other option is to take the morning flight out of Kathmandu and spend all day in the Delhi airport, then board a plane for a 16 hour flight home.

Thoughts, suggestion, and guidance would be much appreciated. We%26#39;ve never been to Delhi or passed through their airport, so we really don%26#39;t know what to expect (other than the mayhem some people have described on here). Thank you.

Delhi Airport Question

Which month are you making this connection. If its December end - Jan beginning, I recommend you take the morning flight from KTM. Due to fog, flights often get delayed and you may miss your connection. If youre making the connection in good weather you should have no problems as Jet is normally on time (but you never know!!)

Delhi Airport Question

Thank you for the reply. Sorry about that. We will be attempting to do this in May.

Well in May you may have sand storms. I would still say play it safe and spend the day sleeping at a hotel near the airport in Delhi. The Ashok Country Resort is nice, see http://www.ashokcountryresort.com/. In May they should give you a special rate for a day use room.

If your Jet Airways flight is on time i would say you would have enough time to make the connection. Even though our arrival and departure immigration queues are long 5 hours is still enough to go through all the checks and still catch you flight with probably 2 hours still on your hand.

Thank you both for your replies. You have been most helpful.

I did this earlier this month. Jet airways from KTM arrives at international terminal and you will be leaving from same terminal.

The hardest thing in Delhi is entering the terminal but you will be in it !

My Jet Airways flight was 15 minutes late.

Delhi airport is small and under total renovation so it is even smaller and crowded and a mess BUT I would not worry in your case. Also passengers that are late going through security are paged and helped through.
