can anyone advise me weather its better to book a trip to the taj mahal localy in cavelossim or to do it over the internet from england

If you book in Goa you will probably get the services of a guide included and you will pay alot more. If you arrange the trip yourself on the internet it is alot cheaper and it is very easy to organise a guide when you get to Delhi or Agra.

the flights seem cheap enough,but its me first time in india so im a bit unsure.there are 1 or 2 web sights i know offering the package at £380 per person dose this seem about the going rate with flights and guides

If it is your first time to India it is probably better to book an organised trip but shop around and wait for advice from other forum posters as I think you will probably get cheaper than £380

You need the following in order to go see the Taj:

1. Flight tickets to Delhi

2. Transport to Agra (car or train)

3. Overnight booking at Agra

4. Car for sightseeing in Agra

5. Transport from Agra to Delhi

You can fly out of India from Delhi if you do the Taj at the end of your trip. Otherwise you need to come back to Goa from Delhi.

You can buy the tickets to Delhi and back on the internet anytime. There are budget airlines, as well as regular/expensive ones. Take an early morning flight so you are in Delhi by 10:00 a.m. Do not attempt the 4 hour drive from Delhi to Agra after 6:00 p.m. (i.e. avoid the highway at night).

For the Delhi-Agra-Delhi leg, most people just hire a car and driver in Delhi. You can do this at the airport, but it is better to do this beforehand, and have the driver meet you at the airport. This car and driver will stay with you throughout the trip. The cost of the driver%26#39;s food and stay is included in the price (mostly, the driver sleeps in the car, or the tour company makes arrangements for him). There are a gazillion companies offering the car+driver combination, check tripadvisor Delhi or Agra posts for recommendations.

Some people spend the day in Delhi (lots of sightseeing in Delhi) and then do a day trip by car to Agra the next day.

Another option is to go to Agra by train. You could do this as a day trip, or as an overnight trip. In this case, you could spend the day sightseeing in Delhi, and stay overnight in Delhi, then take the early morning train to Agra (two-and-a-half hours). There are companies that offer day trip train tours, where they pick you up from your hotel in Delhi, take you to the train station, then to Agra and then bring you back to Delhi the same day.
