How can u forget - Haldirams !!

Near Rabindra Sadan metro stop ....

Excellent food of all varieties (North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, Chaat, etc.)- ur guests can choose from a whole lot of things - Note they have self service there.

Does Haldiram serve meat and fish?? Or only veg?? Haldiram is a choice if you want veggie snacks.

They serve a lot more than just snacks - They have full fledged Veg %26#39;Thalis%26#39;. However they only serve vegetarian food....

Thanks to snanadi and hmmm for their suggestions about restaurants in Calcutta. I really like Oh:Calcutta and Aaheli, Gran of salt and Kewpies were fine too.

Howevr, the buffet lunch we had on January 9,2006 at the Grand Hotel exceeded our expectations, in terms of quality and variety of food, service, ambience, and overall a great value. We had a family get-together of about twenty six people, they gave us the complte use of a banquet Room from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 4 servers who were attentive, efficient, and extremely polite, in addition, they gave us five parking slots. However, I did not say it was cheap, I said it was a great value.

Oh Calcutta is a really good restaurant. I particularly enjoyed the '; Railway Mutton Curry';. It was very nicely cooked (till the meat was tender and juicy) and spiced just right! Biryani was also great and authentic.

For Chinese food, we found the Golden Chopstick off Rash Behari Ave. (near Gouriahat; look for the Kimbadanti Kurta Shops; you can%26#39;t miss them- it%26#39;s lit up on both corners) to be consistantly very good with reasonable prices. The large shrimp were great. Seafood cilentro soup is out of this world. There are lots of parakeets behind glass in the foyer, which makes waiting time (which was very short) entertaining.

Salt restaurant was also good, but more expensive then Oh Calcutta.

Iseemy post fromthree years ago reappeared- I might as well let people know what we did. We had 30+ family members, brothers, sisters, and their children, from Iowa City,Toronto, Utica (NY), Boston, Philadelphia, Santiniketan, Durgapur, Bangalore, Goa,and of course,Calcutta. We had it at the Grand hotel-it was fantastic-they gave us a huge hall, set up the buffet, they replaced the food items very quickly, the service was immaculate,we even had 10 parking spots. It was a little pricey, but was an excellent value.I would highly recommend the Grand.
