transport from shimla to rishikesh

Hi there fellow travellers,

We are planning a trip to the northern parts of India in April. We fly into Delhi and will head straight to Shimla for a few days. We then want to head for Rishikesh and Haridwar. I would like to know if there are decent buses or taxis from Shimla to Rishikesh and if anybody knows the times of these trips. We are on a 10 day trip and want to save as much time as possible to do Agra and Jaipur as well.

hi ishara,

there is no direct bus from shimla to rishikesh... u have to change bus from dehradun. shimla(6 hrs brive)-dehradun(1, 1/2 hrs drive)-rishikesh...cos dehradun is big town in between...from dehradun u can get taxi/bus/shared Jeep etc...

if u want to save time so take texi from shimla to rishikesh (6hrs drive)

U wud be better off hiring a single cab all the way to Rishikesh(be sure to take an airconditioned one coz in april its gonna be hot when u hit plains)...haridwar can be done as a day trip from rishikesh...haridwar is very crowded and hot...though rishikesh is barely 22 kms away from haridwar but it sure is a lot cooler and quiter and less polluted..while in rishikesh u cud do the chamba-dhanaulty-mussourie-kempty falls-rishikesh drive...its lovely...u might want to do some camping near chamba...and rafting in rishikesh...
