Travellers Cheques

Hi there.

Are Travellers Cheques acceptable in Goa?

Basically my Hubby is having major dental treatment done in Candolim at a very reasonable 2000.00.

When you take into consideration the spending money we will be taking also it equates to a lot of cash. So I was contemplating Travellers Cheques.

Not ever having used them before I have not got a clue on how they work.

Any advice/help would be great full. We leave in 18 days:-)

Travellers Cheques

You can change travellers cheques at all banks and most hotels, although banks will give you a better exchange rate. I%26#39;ve never tried to actually pay for anything with TCs. Have you checked with the dentist to see if they accept credit cards?

And the most cost-efficient way of getting money is by opening a Nationwide Flex-Account which takes about 10 days. You get a better exchange rate and no commission and you can withdraw money at most ATMs.

I hope this is helpful.

Travellers Cheques

Travellers cheques are acceptable in Goa, the best ones to take are sterling TC%26#39;s don%26#39;t take dollars, some travel agents and banks will tell you they are the best, but you get a better exchange rate with sterling. A lot of people who use the forum have nationwide cash cards which you can use in the ATM%26#39;s in Goa without any charges. We always take TC%26#39;s and also some cash as back up and we always have our plastic with us. Remember to let your bank know if you are taking credit/debit cards with you then you won%26#39;t have any problems using them. Hope this helps. Oh you can also get TC%26#39;s from your local post office.

Thanks Goan-Girl.

How much can you withdrawl from an ATM at a time in Goa?

Need to get a wriggle on if Im going to open an account with Nationwide

I don%26#39;t honestly know how much you can withdraw in one hit. I think the most I took out was about 10,000 at once. It%26#39;s a bit Big Brother-ish - the machines will tell you how much you%26#39;ve got left in your account, in rupees. You feel quite rich for a few moments!!
