Remedies for Sickness while travelling

Hello All,

Just wondering would anyone have advice/local remedies in the case of sick tummy etc that can sometimes happen when travelling? We will be heading to Mumbai shortly and i am afraid that my stomach will not tolerate rich foods etc.

Thanks

Lisa

Keep your own medicines with you but in case you fall short of anything that you usually use in your own country then you can definitely get it here too but maybe with a different name so it may be difficult to get it without a doctor%26#39;s prescription. For stomach problems like an upset stomach, you can get Immodium capsules but then they are not usually advised for a long term but only if you have to be on the road and cannot go to the toilet frequently without disturbing other members of your group. Keep yourself hydrated at all times by using Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) available for very cheap at all medical and also some general stores in all places. The brand name is Electral which is available as a small sachet for one glass or a big one for one liter of water. It is the best remedy and prevention from sunstroke as well as dehydration due to loose motions. Hope you have no use for any medication when you are here in India!!!

Cheers,

Aadil.

Do you have to have a prescription for medications such as antibiotics in India?

I was wondering if/when I get sick, can I go get some Ciprofloxacin from the local pharmacy?

Antibiotics are sold over the counter without prescription.

Bring your own tiny medicine kit from the UK if you like, but pharma is a big industry in India and all normal medications are widely available.

Hey Lisa,

From experience, we found the immodium tablets worked for us when we got the tummy bug whilst travelling through rajasthan. Also if possible keep a lemon and salt, mix with water and this should clear any stomach problems u get. It tastes yuck, but it helped us immensly when we fell sick.

Make sure u buy bottled water and check that the seal is not broken.

The other suggestions offered above are excellent also.

Hi All,

Thanks so much for all the advise, appreciated.

Regards

Lisa
