Travelling to Goa alone

Hi there,

I hope you guys can help me. I am planning a trip to Goa to meet a friend. I%26#39;m female and will be travelling alone and it is likely that I will either arrive before he gets there or have to stay a day or two after he leaves.

My main question has to be will I be safe? Is it easy to find transport when I arrive or should I book any transfers beforehand? Should I try and get a package deal, or it is easy enough to find accomodation seperately?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Goa is mostly a safe place. When you arrive at the airport and join the queues, you will no doubt meet and get to chat with other holiday makers who will point you in the right direction.

At the exit to the airport you can get a Taxi from the taxi office who can take you anywhere at a set price. It all depends where in Goa you are going. I only know North Goa and there%26#39;s loads of accomodation available, BUT, it would mean asking your taxi driver to take you to various Hotels etc to get the best price. As a single female it may be worth booking a room before you go. Try www.lowcostbeds.com or get a package deal.

If I were to go alone I would want the security of a room in advance personally, but that depends how brave you are?

Either way you%26#39;ll have a great time!

Hi

Keep away from Anjuna.Be sensible and it will be fine.

I%26#39;m female and was there alone in feb and am returning in March for 2 weeks. It%26#39;s a fairly safe place and I never felt threatened but just take usual precautions. I stuck to populated areas and made lots of friends both local and tourist. I wouldn%26#39;t go to some of the clubs alone but there%26#39;s still lots of places you can go alone and feel comfortable.

Thanks everyone. I was questionning whether I should go at all. But I%26#39;ll certainly have a look at flights and accomodation now.

Just one more thing... How long does the visa take to get? I%26#39;m hoping to go second week of April.

Thanks again!

took our visas 8 days from posting to recieving back, we sent them to london, really quick some have had them back quicker, down load the form from internet, and send special delivery each way,

hope you have a great time

I feel safer walking around in Goa at night than I do in our local small town, but still always be careful, problems may come from other tourists rather than the locals. I am sure you will love Goa. I agree with the advice you should book accomodation before you arrive so you can check out where it is situated.

i think you will be safer in goa than england. you can walk around at night in goa. but i would not walk out at night in the uk. unless i was in a group. you be fine in goa.

hI MEGMOL....

l went to Goa travelling as a single female traveller.l had a couple of scary moments but just be sensible ie donot walk down any dark roads/streets on your own.l did and this bloody man appeared out of nowhere.

Find an area you will be staying in and get the taxi to take you there ie Candolim/Calangute.

lastly be firm and CONFIDENT when speaking to indians ( Goans ) They will pick up immediatly on anyone vunerable and will ask you questions from here to eternity, are you on your own ? Are you married ? If you want to play safe tell them youve come to Goa to have your weddin dress made and your meeting up with your mother to approve it.

ENJOY.......and dont be scared firm and confident SERETA

Hi Megmol

I%26#39;m travelling alone too and may or may not meet up with friends while out there. I have only just booked accomm as all the bad reviews on this forum put me off! However, I decided to try some private apartments and have found a fabulous one for 750 INR per night (About £120 for the fortnight).

Owned by an English couple who live there. They have also organised their local taxi driver to meet me at the airport. So where I was initially apprehensive I now can%26#39;t wait! Check out this website for some other fantastic places: www.ownersdirect.co.uk

Good luck.
