Where in India can you go to see some of the himalayas....

Hi

I would like to know is there anywhere in India which I can visit which would give me a glimpse at the Himalayas range without having to do major trekking or climbing. I basically looking for a place which would be located at the bottom but has a nice view of the Himalayas range and many a day tour of trekking or climbing?

Leh, in Ladakh. A wonderful place, not at all like what we typically think of as India (more like Tibet, maybe... or Frank Capra%26#39;s movie of ';Lost Horizon';), and serviced daily by air from Delhi (several airlines do this; Jet Airways, Indian Airlines, and (possibly)Go-Air are three, if memory serves). You will fly over part of the Himalayas in the early morning, and land sufficiently high up to be advised by your hotel to take it very easy for a day or two to acclimatise.

We visited in early November, while most of India was still sweltering (even though this is apparently one of the pleasantest times of the year); the temperature the morning we arrived was zero degrees celsius, and that%26#39;s as warm as it got all day. Unless you really like snow, I wouldn%26#39;t go after mid-November or before mid-March; June, July and August are apparently their peak seasons.

The Himalayas extend across many states and offer different kinds of experiences. Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Darjeeling, Ladakh, Uttaranchal...each of these has tourism options. The best people to contact are Indian Wanderers, they understand this area very well and offer several options. Use the dropdown menu with the mouseover. www.indianwanderers.com

Thanks for the replies

Lets me know where to start looking now.
