Hi
Are there plenty of ATM machines across India %26amp; Nepal ot are we best taking travellers cheques
ATM Machines
Hi Traveler
Metros and big cities in India, they are splattered with ATMs. I had no problems in using my HSBC(UK) credit card in most cities. Even smaller towns like Agra etc have a decent number of ATMs. Don%26#39;t know about Nepal but since its a popular tourist destination, ATMs have to exist there as well. I wud suggest to keep a small amount (200-300 pounds) in travellers checks as well for those sepcial situations, if u know what i mean.
Needless to say all five stars have to have an currency exchange counter, and Nepal has atleast 8-10 five start hotels. So shudn%26#39;t be a problem at all.
ATM Machines
There are ATMs in Thamel in Kathmandu (where you are likely to be I guess) and lakeside in Pokhara. They are not 100% reliable, but aren%26#39;t normally out of service for longer than a day or two.
India has plenty of ATMs as described, but do keep cash (esp. small notes) if you%26#39;re going to small villages.
And do tell your bank you%26#39;re taking your debit card with you or their fraud dept might stop your card!
If your trip is a long one (month or more), I%26#39;d take a few traveller%26#39;s cheques in case of emergencies- sterling is fine. For a fortnight%26#39;s holiday, don%26#39;t bother.
Keep cards, money and cheques in money belt under your clothes, but use a plastic cover for the cheques as you%26#39;ll sweat all over them and eventually they disintegrate!
