Domestic flights from Delhi

In flying from Delhi to Mumbai, does anyone know how much time we should allow between arrival for check-in and flight departure? This should be a mid-day flight if that makes any difference.

I have gotten so much good information from this forum.Thanks to all who contribute.

Normally it%26#39;s 2 hrs prior to flight departure but if have only check in baggage with you ....can avail the facility of telecheck in service of defferent airlines and can 1 hr prior to flight departure.

Mid-day flight doesnot effect on timing of its check in but it has good effet before you reach the airport from the town...

We were informed that 1 hour prior to the flight was adequate although personally I think this is cutting it a bit fine. 90 minutes should be OK. a midday flight is good as you will miss the total madness of the morning and evening rush hours. it will just be the usual madness......

In India all baggage has to be X rayed before you check it in.At the domestic terminal each airline has its own X ray machine so the queues aren%26#39;t too bad. After the Xray and tagging comes the usual check in queue followed by the security queue so as I said 90 mins to 2 hours sounds about right. (but of course after all the queues your flight will be delayed at least an hour)

Normally, about 90 min before flight is fine, but as mentioned, the morning and afternoon rush is chaotic. So if your flight is between 12pm to 4 pm, 90 min. Anything earlier or later=2 hrs to be safe.

As cfm99 says, in spite of everything your flight will likely be an hour late. Delhi airport is particularly stressed with congestion these days.

Depands where you will be staying in Delhi you can take 90 Min at Airport + 30 Min Traffic + Distance from Hotel to Airport

so be there atleast before 2 Hrs prior to departure of flight.

I found the checking in/departure area at Delhi airport to be chaotic, and if you can have some time in hand it is good. Also factor in some time to reach the airport-depending on where you%26#39;re staying, of course. Traffic in Delhi can be horrendous..

Maybe I%26#39;m missing something here, but in the gazillion times that I have flown domestic, I have never reported at a terminal earlier than 1 hour prior to flight takeoff. That has always given me enough and more time. My more adventurous colleagues arrive 45-30 minutes before departure, but that is not something I care to recommend to anyone.

The official statement by Jet Airways on their website is 75 minutes (except for Srinagar and Leh which is 120 minutes). Passengers traveling in groups (10 or more passengers traveling together) are advised to report to the airport at least 90 minutes prior to the flight departure.

I would really like to understand why people are suggesting 90 minutes to 2 hours. Is there something new happening in Delhi that I don%26#39;t know about? The only glitch in winter that I know of is the early morning fog, and resultant delays, but that%26#39;s not the case now. In any case, it is warming up now.

Thinking about visiting India with my husband (both in late 50%26#39;s but fighting hard against it!) next year and would appreciate ANY advice on when and where to visit. Obviously there are must sees like Taj Mahal, but India is such a vast country and we would like to see as much as we can without killing ourselves in the process! The plan therefore is to also spend part of holiday being spoilt and lying on a beach somewhere wonderful!! Any ideas on best way to incorporate both would be greatly appreciated - realise it might mean we have to split it over two holidays (why not) to do all we want to. Heard Goa is gorgeous, but don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s practical to do any sightseeing from this base. In other words my head is completely fuddled and need help urgently! Many thanks to any forummers who can help.

But you can%26#39;t guarantee 100% that all the pills you buy in India are genuine. Lots of stuff around about this if you look. The majority fake drugs are manufactured in India, follwed by China.

lots of these lovely people on here recommend you take your own padlock also not sure if they charge as we%26#39;re first timers too but the people on here are great full of great tips and advice

hi the hotel we stayed in had saftey boxes in the rec and when you want to use it they unlock it for you then you unlock it yourself get what ever out then lock it back up then they lock it so its only you who can unlock and lock it back up its very safe but did have to pay a small fee hope that helps you and have a good time

Stayed in lots of hotels and ive have seen many types of safety boxes, generally they are just metal cabinet boxes and you buy a padlock, sometimes they are double locks where you have a key and they have a key but you need both to open it.

They charge about 1000 rups for two wks i think but its worth it.

You do have to pay, although its not much by our standards. Take your own combination lock, better than losing a key!

I%26#39;m considering holidaying in India next year with hubby and 3 or even 4 teenagers. Would love a mixture of cultural sightseeing probably Agra but combining with a beach holiday, Kerala or Goa perhaps. We would have 2 weeks with possibly 拢5k is it do able? Would it be cheaper to book a package or organise it myself? It would probably have to be around Christmas to avoid the children missing school. Can anyone help? Many thanks

Definitely you must organise the tour yourself.

In north India, Delhi,you can use State Express to organize transport. Sanjeev Chandra helped me many times. In south india, Chennai, Mr.Raja of Welcom TourRs and Travels, is smart and helpful.

Chalukya tours was fantastic in Kerala, they organized a fantastic 2 days cruise on a kettuvalam (houseboat) for a ridicoulos price.

Choice holidays from Mumbai are efficient and experienced.

If you hire a taxi on your own consider to pay no more than 1500Rs per day (about 27 euros)everything included. Avoid to choose Government Hotel, they are mainly very badly manteined and sometimes more expensive of other same standard htl.

You will find numbers of decent budget hotels, at 1000Rs per double room, (17 euros) mainly an extra bed is free of charge.

The best of budget hotel I ever visited is Hotel Corbelli in Pondicherry (see my review) and the owner is from....Wolverhampton!!!

Its a nice basic clean hotel and probably the coldest beer in Candolim. Its on the main road up by the Kingfisher Villa. Small pool but nice and clode to everything

I haven%26#39;t stayed in the Don Hill myself but a couple of friends stayed there. They said it was basic but clean. We stayed in the Loui Beach Hotel just around the corner and the Don Hill was better than that.

We went for a drink and were speaking to some of the guests and they said although basic it was typical basic and in need of a lick of paint. They seemed to like it there. We havent stayed there but have stayed in the Dona Alcina and the Summerville which are also very tired hotels.

my friend stayed there and asked for an extra knob of butter for breakie to put on his toast.later in the evening he got a bill for 10 ruppees saying that was the cost of an extra knob of butter.a large argument occured but the manager said he had to pay it,so reluctantly he did.a sign then went up stating that only 1 knob of butter was to be served at breakfast with toast,or you had to pay extra.his final answer was to stop going in the hotel bar with his friends resulting in less takings.

Advice needed Candolim or Cavelossim?

Just about to book up for Goa in February 2009 but can%26#39;t decide between these 2 resorts. We want somewhere with lots of birds/wildlife and good scenery so Cavelossim sounds like it might be better. We would stay at the Holiday Inn or if we stay in Candolim we would stay at Silver Sands in the one of the new rooms. Would appreciate any advice.

Cavelossim sits nestled between the River Sal and the sea and is great for birdlife etc.We were once coming back from a boat trip and as we came into the estuary we spotted an Osprey swooping down and catching a large fish, we even managed to get it on video :-) (there are also egrets, kites,greenshanks, redshanks several types of kingisher etc. etc.) The Holiday Inn is in a great location with direct access to the beach. We went to Candolim on our first trip to Goa two years and then went to Cavelossim for our second trip last year. Out of the two I preferred Cavelossim but I%26#39;m glad I tried the north first so I had something to compare it to. The main wildlife that we saw in Candolim were the cows on the beach! For the birds/wildlife I think you will be much better in Cavelossim. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and thought it was great - I think the Silver Sands is a more basic hotel though it does seem to get good reviews.

We are going to Cavelossim next February and my husband would like to hire windsurfing equipment. He is an experienced windsurfer but would be happy just bobbing about if it%26#39;s not very windy. Do you know anywhere he could hire equipment?

In case anyone wonders in the future, there isn%26#39;t any windsurfing hire. A few people were kitesurfing as it was quite windy when we were there but think it was their own equipment. Didn%26#39;t spoil the holiday - loads of other things to do.

The government has introduced a long-term tourist visa with multi-entry facility for the nationals of 18 countries. These are France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Vietnam.

The visa will have a five-year validity with the stipulation that continuous stay in India on each visit shall not exceed 90 days. The long-term visa would facilitate repeat visits by the nationals of these countries

goa in April is it to hot?

Hi Jill. We are also going to Goa this April. We have been at this time for the past two years (school hols!) and have been fine. It is hot and humid but you just need to be prepared for that. Wear lots of sun screen, drink plenty of water, get air-con in your room if poss (we%26#39;ve never had air-con but have been ok). It%26#39;s lovely and breezy on the beach so grab some shade if it gets too much, either under a parasol or in a shack. Never been at any other time of year so can%26#39;t make comparisons but April is the only time we can go. Love it!!! Jayne

We went last week of March into 1st week of April and it was hot and humid. The other thing to bear in mind is stomach upsets, there%26#39;s nothing more awful that having a bad tummy and being too hot / sticky and uncomfortable.

That said, we knew it was going to be hot and sticky and we loved it.

We went the first three weeks of April 2006 and it was fine, hot but not excessively humid. We had one small rain storm late afternoon, early evening and that was it. We put aircon on in our rooms when we went out to dinner and then turned it off when we got back and just relied on the ceiling fan for the night, air con made it too cold! During the day we tended to end up on the beach as there was always a strong breeze blowing and it helped you keep cool. It was Easter when we went and there were loads of children in the Dona Sylvia, some much younger than 5 and they all seemed to be fine.

We went in April 2005 %26amp; it was hot %26amp; humid as has been said.

We also ran into a tropical rainstorm on our stay which lasted around 2-3 hrs. I must confess to being terrified as were my 2 teenage girls.

I also have a 5 year old %26amp; mulled over the possibility of taking him with us this year.

Our first ever trip to Goa was an April/early May and although it was humid there was always a nice sea breeze and nothing that a cold beer/limca/lime soda couldn%26#39;t fix.We had a wonderful time and fell in love with Goa. The other thing is for day trips hire a taxi for the day, one it is cheaper and two you can do things at your own pace, stop for a drink when you feel like it etc. etc. etc. Have a great trip :-)

He will arrange everything for you and give you a lovely reception as well He will even arrange an elephant if you want one.He has a website address so give him a mail.Its just Bobbys shack.he will even arrange a catholic blessing with a priest if you dont want a hindu blessing.Good luck

What type of clothing is appropriate in Goa? I%26#39;ve read mixed reviews (some saying that it%26#39;s best to be mostly covered for women - no shorts, bikinis etc and others say Goa is much more ';relaxed'; in terms of acceptable clothing. Any tips/suggestions would be great.

Clothing is not a problem in Goa. It is very much like the Mediterranean resorts. North Goa beaches are packed with skimpily clad holiday makers on sun-loungers three lanes deep! The south is much quieter and it is still possible to find a lovely area of beach all to yourself. Goa is not like the rest of India due to the Portuguese influence as they ruled Goa for many years. Even the Goan people think of India as being somewhere else.

When in Salcette you must visit the excellent party venue at %26#39;Treat Yourself%26#39;. Regular parties take place with barbecue, bar, band and fireworks. Any special occassion for you and they will put a party together. They also have rooms and a swimming pool + gym and ayurveda. Ask any taxi/rickshaw for Frank%26#39;s Gym.

Regarding swim wear, bikinis etc ...

A friend of mine took his family from the Punjab in north India to Goa for a holiday last month.

His wife and the two kids had never seen the sea before. Goa was quite an exotic place for them and they enjoyed it very much. On returning home, my friends eight year old daughter was on the phone to me in UK and she told me, ';The people in Goa do not have any clothes. When I go there again I will take some for them!'; Enjoy your holiday.

we stayed a couple of hundred yards away on the same beach .. have to say that there were always a lot of out of state Indians staying there at weekends, and the restaurant area is very basic, didn%26#39;t get as far as seeing the rooms
