Diamonds, jewellery

Hi people,

i am heading out to Goa on the 15th march for my first time.

i have read a number of commenst on the site about people buying diamond rings etc, i was just wondering how easy it would be to sell a ring in this country if i bought one back?

has anyone actually done this? as it seems that most people buy them for personal use!

Thanks in advance

One of the problems with selling jewellery over here is that it%26#39;s not hallmarked, which tends to bring the value down. And the four-times-what-I-paid-for-it valuations are insurance valuations, not what you%26#39;d actually get for it if you sold it.

Just look on Ebay

If you want to make some money selling jewellery, buy some of the lovely silver jewellery available in Goa fairly cheaply, and get yourself a table at a craft fair, upmarket car boot etc.

It won%26#39;t make you a millionaire but if you%26#39;re discerning about what you buy, you should make a bit of profit - and it%26#39;s good fun!

My advice would be to steer clear of expensive jewellery - you might have it a long time before it sells.

Im quite curious about the posts that say jewellery isnt hallmarked. I have bought 2 gold rings, one with diamonds which are both hallmarked and also a gold choker necklace which is hallmarked. Maybe it just depends where you buy it.

Hi, none of the stuff I have bought has been hallmarked. I think some jewellers buy in the settings from Bangkok and other places, maybe they would be hallmarked? My setting have been cast and are marked 18K.

The two rings i got were an eternity ring with the diamonds which was bought ';off the shelf'; but it was flat topped and when i wore it, I found it didnt sit well with my rounded wedding ring, so I got a wedding ring made to match it, the wedding ring was made to order. The necklace was bought off the shelf from one of the jewellers in those little shops around mapusa market. The rings were from The Chandra which has shops across India I believe. Its a shame they dont have some sort of system like they do in Sri Lanka, jewellery i have bought there came with a certificate and there was a government place you could take it to get it checked.
